Skill Matcher is an intelligent skill recommendation system for Claude Code that analyzes user requests and automatically suggests the most relevant skills from your installed library. It works by understanding task types from initial messages, searching local catalogs and external sources like GitHub and MCP Registry when needed, and intelligently activating skills without manual intervention. The system filters out trivial tasks to avoid unnecessary recommendations, provides clear explanations for why skills are suggested, and can propose creating custom skills when no existing match is found. This reduces manual skill selection overhead and helps operations teams execute tasks more efficiently by applying the right tools automatically.

Install through Claude Code Plugin Marketplace using 'claude plugin install skill-matcher@skill-matcher-marketplace' or manually clone the repository. Configure auto-activation by adding skill matching instructions to your ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md file. The skill will then automatically analyze each message and recommend relevant skills from the supported categories: Documents, Development, Design, Communications, and Meta.
